Dairy designs hit the web
18 October 2006
Designing your next dairy just got a lot easier thanks to CowTime, the
project that makes milking easier. CowTime has launched Dairy Designs on its
website, profiling a range of well-designed dairies.
Dairy Designs includes photos, plans, performance measures and contact
details for 15 real-life swing-over, double-up and rotary dairies.
Project leader, Dr Rob Greenall, said Dairy Designs was developed in
response to frequent requests from farmers for detailed plans of different
shed options. Farmers planning a new dairy generally do a lot of research,
including visiting recently-built dairies. We ve show-cased a range of
dairies featuring the latest designs, he said.
Gippsland dairy farmer, Ron Paynter, had a sneak preview of Dairy Designs.
"Anyone planning a new dairy should check it out. Seeing a number of
different dairy designs in the one place really helps focus your thinking
about the features you need to consider in your own shed," said Ron.
In launching Dairy Designs, Dr Mike Ginnivan, Dairy Australia s managing
director, said the initiative was one of many ways the Dairy Service Levy
was being invested in projects of direct value to dairy farmers.
While CowTime is an excellent example of a project that delivers direct
benefits to dairy farmers, other projects funded through the levy enable the
industry to address future issues such as a world-competitive forage base,
emerging bio-tech opportunities, alternative or supplementary feeds, through
to threats to Australia s international market expansion, he said.
